Lucknow, June 19, 2022 (PPI-OT):The police in Allahabad in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, have obtained Non Bailable Warrant (NBW) against five Muslim activists including district president of All India Majilis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) for their alleged involvement in the massive protest that took place on 10 June in the city against derogatory remarks on the prophet Muhammad (PBUH) by BJP leaders.
The police said they moved court after they failed to arrest the five accused. Apart from AIMIM’s Allahabad unit president Shah Alam, police identified the other four persons as Fazal, Umar Khalid, Ashish Mittal and Zeeshan Rehmani, added police. Fazal is a local corporator while Umar and Zeeshan are the activists based in the city and they had earlier participated in the historic protests organised against CAA/NRC in Allahabad.
Ashish Mittal is associated with an organisation which took part in the June 10 protest, said police.
Police said the role of these five persons came to light during investigation. The Allahabad police have so far arrested 97 persons for the protests that broke out in Kareli and Khuldabad area of the city.
Among those arrested is Javed Mohammed, a prominent Muslim activist in the city whose house was demolished by the Prayagraj Development Authority as its construction “violated several norms.” The arrests and demolitions were heavily criticised by Opposition leaders, Muslim groups and Indian and international human rights bodies. They said these are targeted actions against Muslims by the Hindu nationalist government of Uttar Pradesh.
