Islamabad, July 12, 2021 (PPI-OT):National Assembly resumed its session at the parliament house in Islamabad today (Monday) with Presiding Officer Amjid Ali Khan in the chair.
Parliamentary Secretary for Education Wajiha Qamar laid before the house the Pakistan Global Institute Bill 2021.
Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood has said the decision to hold board exams this year for matric and intermediate was taken with consensus after consultation with the federating units.
Participating in the discussion on the President’s address to the joint sitting of the parliament, in the National Assembly today, he asked the opposition leaders not to do politics on the matter as it is the matter of the future of students. The Education Minister recalled the Covid-19 situation badly impacted the education of students.
Keeping in view the closure of educational institutions, maximum effort was made to facilitate the students. He said we reduced the syllabus as well as the number of subjects for the students appearing in the board exams. In addition, we also extended the time for taking the exams in order to provide sufficient time to the students to prepare for the exams. He said the majority of the students have appreciated these decisions. He expressed satisfaction that ninety five percent of the students are now appearing in the board exams. He said the exams are already over in Baluchistan.
Khawaja Asif in his remarks said unity is the need of the hour to meet the internal and external challenges. He said given the situation evolving in neighbouring Afghanistan, it is important for us to bring to mainstream the tribal districts.
The chair said it is his desire that all the key issues including electoral and judicial reforms and water crisis are discussed in the house. Participating in the discussion, Raja Parvez Ashraf said being a frontline state in the war on terrorism, Pakistan suffered colossal material and human losses. He regretted that these sacrifices have not been acknowledged by the world community in true spirit. He said the way our security forces overcome the menace of terrorism is really commendable.
Aliya Hamza appreciated the government’s economic policies saying these have resulted in increase of exports and decrease in imports. He said there is also a record increase in remittances and they reached 29 billion dollars during the last fiscal year. Highlighting the problems faced by Baluchistan, Agha Hassan Baloch said the development of the province should not be overlooked. He said basic amenities of life should be provided to the people of Baluchistan.

The house has been adjourned to meet again tomorrow (Tuesday) at 4 pm.
