Srinagar, India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) has conducted property seizures in various areas of Pulwama district, located in south Kashmir, invoking controversial legal provisions.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the NIA has sealed properties in Kralpora, including land parcels measuring 1 Kanal, 10.5 Marlas, and 6 Marlas. These properties were attached under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, as per an order from the NIA Special Court.
In a related development, the police also attached a double-storey house in the Gulzarpora, Awantipora area of Pulwama district. The house belongs to Bakhtawar Ahmad Makroo, who is currently incarcerated. This attachment was carried out under the Narcotic-Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS), another contentious legal framework.
These actions by the NIA and police in Pulwama district have raised concerns, reflecting the ongoing use of stringent laws in the region.
