NIA Charges Two Kashmiris Under IPC and UAPA in Alleged False Case

Srinagar, The National Investigation Agency (NIA) of India has filed a chargesheet against two Kashmiri individuals, Hilal Yaqoob Deva and Musiab Fayaz Baba, in what is claimed to be a fabricated case.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the chargesheet was filed today (Tuesday) before the NIA’s Special Court in Jammu. The two individuals are being charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The case against them was initially registered in June 2022.

The NIA has labeled Hilal Yaqoob Deva and Musiab Fayaz Baba as over-ground workers of a mujahid organization, a characterization that the agency has often used in its investigations in the region.

This development has raised concerns about the use of stringent laws like the UAPA in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in cases involving Kashmiri citizens, and the implications for civil liberties and human rights in the region.
