Auckland: New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon marked Pakistan’s Independence Day with a significant appearance at a grand celebration in Auckland on Saturday. The event, a testament to the enduring bond between the two nations, saw the attendance of prominent figures including Minister for Ethnic Communities Mark Mitchell, Leader of the Opposition and former Prime Minister Chris Hipkins, and Pakistan’s High Commissioner to New Zealand, Faisal Aziz Ahmed. Numerous members of Parliament also graced the occasion.
Addressing a large assembly of Pakistani New Zealanders, Prime Minister Luxon conveyed his congratulations to Pakistan and commended the positive role of the Pakistani diaspora in New Zealand’s progress. He underscored the longstanding amicable ties between the two countries.
The program commenced with a symbolic flag-hoisting ceremony led by High Commissioner Dr. Faisal Aziz Ahmed, who also presented Pakistan-made shawls to the Prime Minister and other distinguished guests. The festivities included poetry readings, cultural displays, video presentations, and patriotic musical performances. A new interactive website for the Pakistan Association of New Zealand (PANZ) was also launched.
Prime Minister Luxon’s presence at the event was recognized as a notable display of goodwill towards Pakistan. Organized by PANZ, the celebration received backing from the Pakistan High Commission, the New Zealand Ministry of Ethnic Communities, and various Pakistani businesses in Auckland. The event is one of several high-profile commemorations taking place across New Zealand cities to mark Pakistan’s Independence Day.
