Peshawar, In a notable ceremony held today, Babar Saleem Swati and Surayya Bibi, both representatives of the Sunni Ittehad Council, were sworn in as the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, respectively. The oath-taking event marked a significant transition in the assembly’s leadership.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the outgoing Speaker, Mushtaq Ahmed Ghani, administered the oath to Babar Saleem Swati as the new Speaker. Subsequently, Swati took on his first official duty by administering the oath to Surayya Bibi, the newly elected Deputy Speaker. The election results showcased a decisive victory for Swati, who secured eighty-nine votes against his opponent, Ihsan Ullah Mian Khel, who received seventeen votes.
In his farewell address, Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani expressed his gratitude towards the assembly staff and its members for their support and cooperation throughout his tenure. This change in leadership comes at a crucial time for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, as it prepares to address new challenges and opportunities under the guidance of its new Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
