New Delhi, Indian Government Aims to Promote Hindutva Ideology Through Textbook Revisions

New Delhi, In a significant move, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Indian government is reportedly embarking on a mission to revise school textbooks, ostensibly to promote its Hindutva ideology across the nation. This development was brought to light in a seminar discussing the new education policy.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Sitaram Yechury, the General Secretary of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), expressed concerns about this initiative at the seminar. Yechury accused the BJP of attempting to transform India’s character from a secular democratic republic into a nation embodying Hindutva principles. He cited the BJP’s efforts in rewriting historical narratives in school textbooks, particularly those pertaining to the rule of Muslim kings, emperors, and sultans, as a means to glorify Hindutva and establish a false historical narrative.

Yechury pointed to the demolition of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya and the subsequent construction of the Ram Temple on its site as indicative of the Hindutva narrative the BJP seeks to propagate. Criticizing the new education policy, he stated that it represents an assault on reason and rationality, aimed at fostering a mindset supportive of a Hindutva Rashtra. As per Yechury, the core objective of this policy is to recast the history of India, promoting the idea that Muslim constructions in the country were predominantly built after demolishing Hindu temples and other structures.

The implications of this educational shift are potentially far-reaching, influencing the perspectives of future generations and shaping the cultural and historical discourse in India.
