Srinagar: The Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) of Jammu and Kashmir has voiced deep concerns over recent criminal laws passed by the Indian parliament, warning that their enforcement could severely erode civil liberties in the contested region of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

According to Kashmir Media Service, DFP spokesman Advocate Arshad Iqbal criticized the new laws for granting excessive powers to Indian forces and agencies, which he claims already operate with significant impunity under existing draconian measures. Iqbal highlighted the potential for these laws to exacerbate human rights abuses in IIOJK, where there is already a stark lack of accountability. He urged international human rights organizations to intervene and address these issues with India and at international platforms. The DFP continues to advocate for a dialogue involving all stakeholders as the only viable solution to the longstanding Kashmir conflict.
