NEOC Issues Weather Alert for Pakistan Warning of Thunderstorms and Flash Floods

Islamabad: The National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has announced impact-based weather alerts for various regions across Pakistan, effective from June 25 to July 1, 2025. The alerts warn of potential thunderstorms, windstorms, and flash floods, posing risks to public safety, infrastructure, and transportation networks.

Isolated rainfall, thunderstorms, and windstorms are anticipated in Islamabad and numerous locations in Punjab, including Rawalpindi, Murree, and Lahore. These weather conditions could result in the uprooting of weak trees, temporary power outages, and damage to vulnerable structures and vehicles. Residents are advised to avoid standing near trees, signboards, or weak structures and to park vehicles in secure areas.

The NEOC also highlights a heightened risk of flash flooding in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and the Potohar region due to moderate to heavy rainfall. Flash floods in local streams and nullahs may disrupt road access and trigger landslides, posing a significant threat to property and public safety in flood-prone areas. Residents are urged to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, isolated thunderstorms are forecasted in regions such as Chitral, Peshawar, and Swat. These may affect power supply and road visibility. Similarly, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir are expected to experience isolated rainfall and thunderstorms, with potential impacts on local infrastructure.

NDMA strongly encourages citizens, travelers, and departments to take precautionary measures and stay vigilant. Emergency response units are advised to prepare for potential rescue and evacuation efforts. The public is urged to stay informed with regular weather updates and to use the “Pak NDMA Disaster Alert” mobile application for real-time advisories.
