NDMA Warns of Severe Weather and Potential Flooding in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa


Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall expected to impact large areas of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from August 26 to 28, raising concerns about urban and flash flooding.



According to Press Information Department, the forecasted severe weather includes thunderstorms and gusty winds, particularly affecting the low-lying urban areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, and several other districts in Punjab, as well as major water channels in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Swat, Dir, and Peshawar. The NDMA has highlighted potential risks such as urban flooding, damage to weak structures, and disruptions caused by windstorms and lightning.



Emergency response teams have been directed to prepare for immediate action, with resources being mobilized to address potential emergencies. The NDMA has also issued travel advisories, urging tourists and local residents to avoid affected areas during the forecast period and to download the ‘Pak NDMA Disaster Alert’ mobile app for ongoing updates and safety instructions.
