NDMA Warns of Monsoon Rains and Potential Flooding Across Pakistan

Islamabad: The National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert for moderate to heavy monsoon rains expected across various regions of Pakistan from August 14 to 18, 2024. The anticipated weather could lead to flooding in urban areas and increased water flow in rivers and streams, particularly affecting parts of Punjab, Balochistan, Sindh, and the northern regions.

According to Press Information Department, the NDMA has specifically forecasted significant rainfall in the catchment areas of the Ravi, Chenab, and Jhelum rivers, as well as in southern Balochistan and central and southern Sindh. Authorities are particularly concerned about potential flooding in Murree, Galiyat, and other vulnerable regions, including Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.

In response, the NDMA has instructed relevant departments to prepare Emergency Response Teams and has mobilized resources to respond promptly to potential emergencies. The public, especially tourists, is advised to avoid traveling to the forecasted areas during this period and to stay informed through the NDMA’s mobile app and local weather reports.
