Islamabad, March 11, 2023 (PPI-OT): The National Disaster Management authority has sailed off another ship PNS Moawin with 550 tons of relief goods for quake-hit Turkiye and Syria from Karachi on Saturday. Chairman NDMA Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, Turkish Consul General Jamal Sangu and Commander Pakistan Fleet Rear Admiral Faisal Abbasi graced the departure ceremony of the Ship.
The Turkish Consul General Jamal Sangu conveyed gratitude to government and people of Pakistan for extending humanitarian support in the aftermath of the deadly earthquake in his country.
The ship is carrying 2625 family-sized fire resistant winterized tents and 38370 blankets making a total of 367 tons for quake-affected Turkiye, whereas 179 tons aid consisting of 22000 blankets, 144 tons of donations including essential items of daily use for Syria. So far NDMA has dispatched 2812 tons of relief assistance to both countries containing Winterized family tents, blankets, ration packs and other essential items.
As part of continuous relief assistance on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s directions, NDMA is spearheading massive relief operations by using every possible available mean of transportation to maximize the assistance for brothers and sisters of affected countries.
Meanwhile, National Disaster Management Authority dispatched first special relief cargo flight from Lahore for earthquake victims of Turkey. It contained 1200 winter family tents. The NDMA spokesperson said the authority will operate 34 special flights to Turkey which will continue till 23rd of this month.
