Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has released its daily situation report detailing the impacts of the ongoing monsoon season across Pakistan, with four reported fatalities and significant infrastructure and property damage within the last 24 hours. The report covers a range of damages and casualties, highlighting the severe effects of monsoon-related incidents such as lightning strikes, structural collapses, and drowning.
According to National Disaster Management Authority, during the period from 1300 hours on September 4 to 1300 hours on September 5, 2024, casualties included one fatality due to lightning in Hub, Balochistan, and three others in various incidents involving structural collapses and drowning in Punjab. The report also details injuries across several provinces, with a total of nine people injured due to similar monsoon-related incidents.
The infrastructure damages reported are extensive, particularly in Sindh and Punjab, with hundreds of homes either partially or fully damaged and significant livestock losses. This has compounded the challenges faced by the affected communities, further exacerbated by ongoing relief and rescue operations. The NDMA’s cumulative data from July 1 to September 5, 2024, shows a total of 341 deaths and over 600 injuries attributed to monsoon-related incidents, alongside widespread damage to roads, bridges, and thousands of homes.
Rescue and relief efforts remain intensive, with numerous camps and medical facilities established to assist those affected. The NDMA continues to coordinate with provincial disaster management authorities to provide necessary aid and conduct rescue operations, reflecting the ongoing severe impact of the monsoon season on the region.
