Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) commemorated National Resilience Day at the National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) at their headquarters, underscoring a commitment to proactive disaster management and remembering the victims of the 2005 earthquake and other catastrophes. The day was marked by reflections on past disasters and discussions on strategies to bolster the nation’s resilience against future crises.
According to Press Information Department, Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, Chairman of NDMA, highlighted significant advancements in disaster management, including the transition from a reactive to a proactive approach. He showcased the capabilities of the newly inaugurated NEOC, which features state-of-the-art technology such as satellite feeds, advanced software, and AI tools. The center has developed a National Common Operating Picture (NCOP) that enhances digital risk assessments and early warning systems.
The event also focused on the role of gender equality and microfinance in strengthening community resilience, with global partners emphasizing these as crucial for recovery efforts. Discussions extended to climate change challenges and the upcoming COP29, where Pakistan aims to engage actively. The day concluded with Malik reaffirming NDMA’s dedication to a disaster-resilient Pakistan through collaborative efforts and innovative strategies, reflecting on the contributions and insights of national and international experts gathered to honor the occasion.
