NDMA Marks School Safety Day with Safety Kits and Drills in Islamabad Schools

Islamabad, The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) celebrated School Safety Day by organizing safety drills and distributing school safety kits at Islamabad Model School for Girls. The event, held in collaboration with various educational and humanitarian organizations, aimed to strengthen disaster preparedness and risk reduction in schools.

According to Press Information Department, the NDMA’s Gender and Child Cell (GCC), in partnership with the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) and the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat Pakistan (AKAHP), conducted a three-day refresher and Training of Trainers (ToT) session under the “Pakistan School Safety Framework.” This initiative is designed to educate teachers on emergency protocols, focusing on handling scenarios such as earthquakes and fire emergencies.

During the event, NDMA also handed over All-Inclusive School Safety Kits to the School Safety Committee. These kits contain 20 different items essential for crisis management and emergency responses. The distribution of these kits is part of a broader effort to equip 432 FDE-linked schools across the region, aiming to establish a more robust safety network in educational institutions.

The event also highlighted the Pakistan School Safety Framework (PSSF), developed in conjunction with UNICEF, the British Council, the School of Leadership, and other key stakeholders. This framework is part of a larger regional effort recognized for its comprehensive approach to school safety during a recent UNICEF Regional Knowledge Exchange on Child Centered Disaster Risk Reduction and Management in Kathmandu.
