Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has released its latest monsoon update, detailing rainfall in various regions over the last 24 hours and forecasting weather conditions for the next 24-48 hours across Pakistan.
According to National Disaster Management Authority, recent data shows varied rainfall in the country, with Punjab experiencing significant downpours M.B. Din recorded 67 mm, followed closely by Lahore with 66 mm. Other areas such as Gujrat and Rawalpindi each saw 60 mm. In contrast, regions like Balochistan, Sindh, and Gilgit-Baltistan recorded no rainfall.
The forecast for the next two days indicates predominantly hot and humid weather across most districts. However, specific areas like Zhob, Musakhel, and Kohlu in Balochistan; Dir and Chitral in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; and Murree and Rawalpindi in Punjab are expected to experience rain-wind and thundershowers. The Islamabad Capital Territory is also set to face similar conditions with potential rain-wind storms.
The NDMA warns of the risk of flash flooding and landslides in hilly and mountainous regions, particularly in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJ and K), due to the forecasted heavy rains. Additionally, the report notes the potential dangers of roof and wall collapses in less sturdy structures, damage to electric poles and billboards, and the possibility of Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) incidents in vulnerable valleys of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit Baltistan.
As the monsoon season progresses, the NDMA advises residents in affected areas to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions against the diverse impacts of the season’s weather patterns.
