Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a monsoon activity advisory for Sindh and the eastern parts of Balochistan scheduled for July 8th and 9th, 2024, and for the upper and central regions from July 10th to 16th, 2024. The advisory warns of significant rainfall that could trigger landslides and flash flooding in various parts of the country, urging local authorities and residents to prepare and take preventive measures.
According to Press Information Department, the NDMA, in coordination with the Pakistan Meteorological Department, forecasts that monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea will affect the upper parts of the country between July 8th and 16th. Areas in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, the Galiyat region, Murree, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir are at risk of landslides and mudslides. In Balochistan, expected heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding, particularly affecting local streams and the Sulaiman and Kirthar Ranges. South Punjab may also experience similar torrential impacts, particularly in D.G. Khan and Rajanpur districts. Additionally, the NDMA highlighted a risk of lightning strikes across various regions.
Residents in low-lying areas are advised to be particularly vigilant and prepare for potential urban flooding. The NDMA also recommends that the public stay informed through its ‘Pak NDMA Disaster Alert’ mobile app, which provides disaster alerts and necessary guidelines.
