Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather alert warning of significant rainfall and potential flooding across the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Azad Kashmir regions, with storms also expected in southern Sindh over the coming days.
According to Press Information Department, the National Emergency Operation Center (NEOC) of the NDMA forecasts that strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal will affect upper regions of Pakistan, leading to prolonged rainfall expected to last until July 27. Thunderstorms and rain are anticipated tonight across coastal areas of Sindh, including major cities and districts such as Karachi, Hyderabad, and Mirpur Khas.
The NEOC has predicted heavy to moderate rainfall in southern Punjab’s Rohi and Rahim Yar Khan, as well as in numerous localities in Azad Kashmir and KP, including Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, and Peshawar. The expected weather conditions may lead to flooding in urban areas, rising water levels in streams and rivers, and potential landslides in mountainous regions.
In response to these forecasts, NDMA has directed relevant departments to alert Emergency Response Teams and mobilize resources to ensure a swift response to any emergencies that may arise. The authority also cautions tourists against traveling to these regions during the forecast period and advises the public to remain vigilant and follow local authority instructions.
For timely updates and alerts, NDMA recommends that the public download the ‘Pak NDMA Disaster Alert’ mobile app and closely monitor weather reports to stay informed of developments.
