Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) held the fourth session of the National Disaster Response Committee (DRC) today, focusing on evaluating progress and planning for future monsoon emergencies. The session, chaired by Prof. Ahsan Iqbal and co-chaired by NDMA Chairman Lt General Inam Haider Malik, reviewed the implementation of past directives and discussed strategies for potential emergencies, particularly in South Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan.
According to Press Information Department, updates were provided on the recent rain emergencies and the ongoing monsoon’s potential impacts. Representatives from various provincial departments, along with Pakistan Railway and the National Highway Authority, reported on infrastructure damages and communication disruptions. The session also covered the status of water reservoirs, risk calculations by the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC), and NDMA’s preparedness plans. Additionally, NEOC provided insights into regional weather conditions and the flood situation in Bangladesh, with discussions on humanitarian relief operations for affected areas.
The Federal Minister for Planning and Special Initiatives lauded the coordinated efforts of federal and provincial authorities for their prompt response to monsoon-related emergencies and directed further resource deployment. The NDMA Chairman appreciated the contributions of humanitarian partners and responders in managing the crises effectively. The meeting saw participation from senior officials across various federal ministries, provincial and state disaster management authorities, and other relevant stakeholders.
