NDMA Advisory: More Monsoon Rains-Wind and Thundershowers Expected from July 28 to 31

Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a warning of intensified monsoon activity across various regions of Pakistan, highlighting potential risks such as landslides, mudslides, and flash flooding between July 28 and 31. The advisory specifically targets areas in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Galiyat, Murree, Gilgit Baltistan, and the State of AJ&K, noting that the monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea will likely affect these regions until the end of July.

According to Press Information Department, the NDMA has outlined the expected meteorological conditions, stating that the monsoon currents are set to penetrate the upper parts of the country from July 27. During this period, rainfall could trigger dangerous hill torrents in Sulaiman and Kirthar Ranges, including specific locations like D.G. Khan and Rajanpur. Local authorities are urged to prepare for sudden floods, particularly in nullahs and areas prone to rapid water accumulation.

Residents in the affected regions are advised to take considerable precautions, such as avoiding floodwaters, staying away from flood-prone areas, and not crossing rapidly flowing bridges. The NDMA emphasizes the peril of even shallow moving water, which can knock an adult off their feet, and deeper levels capable of sweeping away vehicles. It’s also recommended to seek shelter in robust structures like schools and government buildings in case of intense rainfall.

To aid in preparedness and ensure public safety, the NDMA has launched the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert application, which is now available on the Google Play Store and iOS App Store. This app provides timely alerts, advisories, and guidelines to help residents navigate the challenges posed by extreme weather conditions effectively.
