Srinagar: Omar Abdullah, the Vice President of the National Conference (NC) and the party candidate for the Ganderbal assembly constituency, has declared that repealing the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) will be a priority if his party is voted into power. The NC leader emphasized this commitment during a party function in Ganderbal, highlighting the act’s impact on Kashmiri youth.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Omar Abdullah stressed the importance of focusing on the needs of the Kashmiri people rather than employing fear tactics against political adversaries such as the BJP. He pointed out that any vote not cast for NC and its allies would inadvertently benefit the BJP, regardless of the alternative party chosen by voters.
Abdullah further elaborated that the NC is dedicated to addressing the concerns of Kashmiris through a well-structured manifesto, rather than through divisive strategies. “Once in power, the NC-led government will prioritise the repeal of AFSPA, putting an end to the unjust harassment faced by our youth,” he reiterated during his speech.
This statement comes at a crucial time as the region prepares for upcoming elections, with the NC positioning itself as a pivotal force against the BJP and advocating for significant legislative changes that impact the local populace.
