Lahore, In a unanimous decision, Nawaz Sharif was re-elected as the President of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) during the party’s General Council meeting in Lahore today. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended his congratulations, noting the significant support Nawaz Sharif enjoys within the party.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Prime Minister expressed his satisfaction in handing back the presidency to Nawaz Sharif, having held the position temporarily. He highlighted the need for Nawaz Sharif’s leadership and guidance to steer the current government’s efforts in addressing public issues.
The meeting also featured critical remarks from the Prime Minister towards the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), accusing him of undermining state institutions and spreading false narratives. He called on the judiciary to address these actions, which he described as attempts to destabilize the country.
Senior party leader Ishaq Dar reiterated that Shehbaz Sharif had only assumed the party presidency temporarily and emphasized the party’s robust support for Nawaz Sharif. The General Council also passed a resolution expressing full confidence in Nawaz Sharif’s leadership.
In his address, Nawaz Sharif thanked the party leadership and workers for their continued support and commended Shehbaz Sharif for maintaining the party’s strength during challenging times. He praised the current government’s performance, noting improvements in the economy and a reduction in price hikes, contrasting it with the tenure of the PTI founder, whom he criticized for detrimental policies.
