Srinagar: The National Conference (NC) has unveiled its manifesto for the upcoming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, calling for renewed dialogue between Pakistan and India to address the Kashmir dispute and other regional tensions.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the manifesto not only focuses on the geopolitical issue of Kashmir but also on the restoration of Articles 370 and 35A, which previously provided special status to the region until their abrogation in 2019. The document emphasizes the importance of these articles in maintaining the historical and political rights of the people in Jammu and Kashmir.
The NC’s policy proposals include the repeal of what it terms draconian laws like the Public Safety Act (PSA), arguing that such laws are misused to suppress dissent and detain individuals without due process. The manifesto also outlines commitments to political empowerment, economic development, social justice, and the preservation of local culture against the encroachments of Hindutva ideologies.
The party stresses that the aspirations of the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) should guide diplomatic engagements aimed at resolving the Kashmir issue, advocating for peace and stability in South Asia through constructive dialogue.
