National Conference Firm on Article 370 Stance, Omar Abdullah Highlights Long Battle

New Delhi: The National Conference has once again affirmed its unwavering commitment to restoring Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir. This declaration comes amid ongoing political debates and shifts in the region’s administrative status.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Omar Abdullah, Vice President of the National Conference, emphasized the significance of Article 370 to the party’s core ideology during a media interview in New Delhi. “Article 370 and the special status of Jammu and Kashmir are part of the National Conference’s ideology. It’s not something that we will surrender,” Abdullah stated, underscoring the long-term commitment of his party to this cause.

He also reflected on the historical political shifts that have occurred over decades, noting the BJP’s gradual rise from having only two MPs in 1984 to its current majority, which enabled the revocation of Article 370. “It’s a long fight. When BJP was reduced to 2 MPs in the Parliament (in 1984), did anyone believe that they would be in a position to do anything on Article 370 or the Ram Mandir? But things changed and it took decades to reach there,” he remarked.

Abdullah’s comments come at a time when the National Conference is trying to navigate a complex political landscape, focusing its manifesto on governance and development while also grappling with the broader ideological and constitutional issues that affect Jammu and Kashmir.
