National Conference Declares BJP’s Ladakh Election Defeat a Referendum on Article 370 Revocation

Srinagar, 16 Oct 2023: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) has articulated that the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) pronounced defeat in the Ladakh Hill Development Council’s elections in Kargil signifies widespread disapproval of the Indian government’s 2019 decision to revoke Articles 370 and 35-A, subsequently dividing the region into two union territories.

Kashmir Media Service disclosed the National Conference’s statement issued in Srinagar, which predicts potential hesitancy from the BJP leadership regarding the scheduling of forthcoming elections for the Kashmir legislative assembly.

In the recent polls for the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Dev Council, Kargil (LAHDC-K), the opposition alliance notably secured 22 of the 26 seats. Meanwhile, BJP managed to obtain only two seats, with the remaining two going to independent candidates.
