Islamabad: A significant meeting was held to refine Pakistan’s interfaith harmony policy, chaired by the Prime Minister’s advisor on Inter-Provincial Coordination and Political Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, with notable attendees including Federal Ministers for Law and Justice, and Religious Affairs. The committee reviewed a developed strategy aimed at promoting religious tolerance across the nation, with a focus on engaging all provinces in the implementation.
According to Press Information Department, the strategy involves contributions from federal cabinet members and aims to enact the policy across Islamabad and the four provinces, with already secured support from the governments of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The committee emphasized the necessity of obtaining approval from Sindh and Punjab to ensure a unified approach towards enhancing interfaith relations. The discussion also highlighted the critical role of the National Commission for Minorities in the policy’s success, suggesting that its chairperson should be a seasoned expert in human rights and minority rights.
The meeting underscored the urgency of addressing and preventing violent incidents against minorities, which adversely affect the country’s global image. Recommendations from the provinces are set to be incorporated into the final policy draft, which will then be presented for approval to Parliament and the federal cabinet. Additionally, a subcommittee including key representatives from multiple ministries and provincial governments has been tasked to finalize their recommendations within a week to move forward with the policy enactment.
