Islamabad, National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf inaugurated the Yadgar-e-Dastur (Constitution Monument) and Bagh-e-Dastur in Islamabad, emphasizing the enduring significance and sanctity of the Constitution as the cornerstone of democracy and governance in Pakistan. These installations, described as the first of their kind in the country’s constitutional and political history, stand as a testament to Pakistan’s dedication to the principles of democracy and the rule of law.
According to National Assembly of Pakistan, the monuments are designed to be a perpetual reminder of the Constitution’s role in forging a strong bond between the state and its people, guiding the nation on the path of development and progress. The Yadgar-e-Dastur features plaques bearing the Preamble and fundamental rights of the 1973 Constitution, framed by Islamic motifs to reflect Article 227’s stipulation that all laws be brought into conformity with the injunctions of Islam. The presence of the national flag and a nearby fountain symbolizes the citizens’ duty to uphold loyalty and obedience to the Constitution and the law.
Bagh-e-Dastur, enriched with greenery, symbolizes the Constitution with each tree representing an article, while positioning the Parliament at its core to underscore its pivotal role in governance.
Speaker Ashraf highlighted this initiative’s significance, marking the Golden Jubilee of the Constitution celebrated on April 10, 2023. He paid tribute to the Constitutional Advisory Committee’s members, including prominent figures like Mian Raza Rabbani and Mr. Mohammad Ishaq Dad, among others, for their vision and dedication to the project.
The National Assembly of Pakistan praised the special dedication of Syed Tahir Hussain, Secretary-General National Assembly, and other key staff members for their commitment to bringing this monumental project to fruition.
This dedication to commemorating the Constitution’s Golden Jubilee through Yadgar-e-Dastur and Bagh-e-Dastur underscores the National Assembly’s commitment to fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of Pakistan’s constitutional framework among its citizens.
