National Assembly Honors Shaheed Benazir Bhutto for Her Contributions to Democracy and Women’s Rights


Islamabad, The National Assembly of Pakistan passed a resolution today, paying tribute to Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, the Islamic world’s first elected female Prime Minister, for her enduring contributions to democracy, women’s empowerment, human rights, social justice, and the pursuit of an equitable society.



According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the resolution, introduced by Sehar Kamran, recognized Benazir Bhutto as a symbol of the struggle, courage, and resilience of women against adversity. It highlighted her as an inspiration for women and mothers globally, particularly for female politicians and parliamentarians.



The resolution committed to advancing her legacy by advocating for policies that empower women, ensure equal opportunities, and eliminate gender discrimination. It acknowledged the critical role and contributions of women in all areas of life and stressed the necessity of ongoing efforts to eliminate barriers preventing women from reaching their full potential.



Moreover, it called for increased investment in women by both the government and private sectors to further enhance their contributions to Pakistan’s progress and development. The resolution demanded strict action against those responsible for crimes against women and advocated for gender equality through legislative measures, education, and awareness initiatives.



Furthermore, it emphasized the importance of including women in decision-making processes at all levels to ensure their significant participation in developing policies and programs affecting their lives.



The session concluded with the house adjourned until Wednesday at 2:00 pm.
