Islamabad: The National Assembly continued its deliberations on the budget for the upcoming financial year, as lawmakers voiced concerns over proposed salary adjustments and economic growth targets. Key figures in the assembly argued for more substantial increases in both areas to better address the challenges faced by citizens.

According to Radio Pakistan, Raja Pervez Ashraf criticized the proposed seven percent raise for government employees, stating it was inadequate given the prevailing inflation. He advocated for a minimum increase of ten percent to provide more effective relief. Ashraf also called for unity among political parties to formulate a long-term economic strategy, reducing the nation’s reliance on foreign loans. He highlighted the importance of encouraging investments from overseas Pakistanis to generate employment opportunities domestically.

Muhammad Ijaz ul Haq expressed dissatisfaction with the projected GDP growth rate of four percent for the next financial year, suggesting it was too low to combat poverty and improve living standards. He urged for an increase in the growth rate to between six and seven percent, underscoring the need for more ambitious economic goals.
