National Assembly Committee Pushes for Formalization of Parliamentary Secretaries’ Roles


Islamabad: The National Assembly’s Standing Committee for Parliamentary Affairs today urged the initiation of legislation to formally define the roles, responsibilities, and compensation of Parliamentary Secretaries to enhance their effectiveness in handling parliamentary business. This recommendation was made during the committee’s third meeting, which was held at Parliament House under the chairmanship of Rana Iradat Sharif Khan.



According to National Assembly of Pakistan, the meeting included a comprehensive briefing by the Secretary of the Ministry for Parliamentary Affairs, who emphasized the Ministry’s crucial role in facilitating communication between various ministries/divisions and Parliament. This liaison is deemed vital for coordinating both official and unofficial parliamentary activities.



The Honorable Minister for Parliamentary Affairs disclosed that the Ministry is nearing the completion of its “Parliamentary Outreach Policy.” This development is part of broader efforts to streamline parliamentary functions and enhance legislative engagement.



The session was attended by multiple MNAs, including Mr. Shaikh Aftab Ahmed, Mr. Raja Qamar-ul-Islam, Mr. Naveed Aamir, Ms. Nikhat Shakeel Khan, Mr. Sahibzada Sibghatullah, Mr. Ali Muhammad, Mr. Hameed Hussain, and Ms. Shahida Begum. The Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Azam Nazeer Tarar, along with the Secretary and other senior officials of the Ministry, were also present.



The committee’s recommendation marks a significant step toward structuring the operational framework for Parliamentary Secretaries, aiming to improve the efficiency and clarity of their duties within the legislative process.
