National Assembly Approves Sweeping Administrative Reforms to Enhance Efficiency and Cut Costs

Islamabad: The National Assembly’s Finance Committee, led by Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, has approved significant administrative reforms aimed at transforming the National Assembly Secretariat into a more dynamic and efficient organization while achieving substantial cost savings.

According to National Assembly of Pakistan, the approved reforms include the abolition of 220 non-essential positions, which is projected to save more than 563 million rupees annually. The initiative, driven by a broader austerity plan, has successfully implemented two of its three phases, with the third phase expected to save an additional 40 crore rupees.

The reforms, endorsed during a meeting chaired by Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, also encompass improvements in hiring, promotion procedures, and overall transparency within the Secretariat. A sub-committee has been tasked with reviewing and proposing amendments to the National Assembly Secretariat Employees Act 2018, aiming to align it more closely with the Civil Servants Act, 1973.

The committee has also instituted a moratorium on further recruitment and formed a ticketing and lodging committee to enhance transparency and evaluate staff performance. Additionally, efforts are underway to digitize operations to promote a paperless environment, with ongoing projects led by the Punjab Information Technology Board.

Moreover, Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has directed the timely construction of additional blocks at the Parliament Lodges and highlighted the cost savings from the solarization of the Parliament Building.
