Islamabad: Today marks the 59th martyrdom anniversary of Major Raja Aziz Bhatti Shaheed, recipient of the Nishan-i-Haider, Pakistan’s highest military honor, for his extraordinary bravery during the 1965 Indo-Pak war.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Major Bhatti joined the Pakistan Army in 1950 and was commissioned into the Punjab regiment. He famously held his ground as a company commander in the Burki area of the Lahore sector under severe artillery and tank fire. Major Bhatti’s strategic positioning and leadership helped secure the defense of the BRB canal, crucial to the area’s protection.
His heroism culminated when he was struck by an enemy tank shell, resulting in his martyrdom on this day in 1965. The Armed Forces of Pakistan, including the Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee and the Services Chiefs, have collectively honored his legacy and valor. They also extended their homage to the families of all martyrs, recognizing the immense sacrifices made by them with great courage and resilience.
