Narowal Sports City Set for Major Upgrades Ahead of South Asian Games


Narowal, In anticipation of next year’s South Asian Games, Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Prof Ahsan Iqbal announced significant upgrades to Narowal Sports City. The Minister chaired a critical meeting focused on accelerating development projects within the complex to meet international standards in time for the upcoming regional sports event.



According to Press Information Department, the meeting drew together key figures including Vice Chancellor of the University of Narowal Prof. Dr. Muhammad Younis, Federal Secretary for Inter-Provincial Coordination Nadeem Irshad Kayani, and other officials from the Pakistan Sports Board and the Higher Education Commission. A decisive move was the transfer of administrative control of Narowal Sports City from the Pakistan Sports Board to the University of Narowal, along with the formation of a three-member committee to oversee the administrative and financial operations.



The committee’s immediate mandate is to ensure the swift completion of facilities including squash and badminton halls, and cricket, football, hockey, and basketball grounds. Additionally, a new Kabaddi ground is to be constructed, and essential services like electricity are to be rapidly implemented.



Prof Ahsan Iqbal underscored the government’s commitment to revitalizing Narowal Sports City, heavily criticizing the previous administration’s neglect. The sports complex is scheduled for comprehensive upgrades, including the reconstruction of the cricket ground to host first-class matches next season. The Minister also highlighted the strategic importance of the facility in promoting sports and nurturing talent at an international level, announcing regular personal inspections to monitor progress.



Speaking to the media, Prof Iqbal reiterated the government’s vision of enhancing sports infrastructure and coaching facilities at Narowal Sports City. He emphasized plans to host not only the South Asian Games but also the National Games, aiming to bolster national pride and sportsmanship. The initiative reflects a broader push to elevate Pakistan’s standing in international sports, providing world-class training opportunities for local athletes.
