NAB Deputy Chairman Spearheads Meetings to Address Gwadar’s Operational Challenges

Gwadar, Deputy Chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) visited the NAB Balochistan sub-office in Gwadar on June 11, 2024, and chaired two crucial meetings focused on the operational issues of the Gwadar Port Authority (GPA) and land allotment concerns within the district.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Balochistan, the sessions were designed to address and refine draft recommendations aimed at enhancing the efficiency of GPA operations. The discussions were attended by senior officials from both federal and provincial departments, including the SMBR Government of Balochistan, Commissioner Mekran Division, and the Directors General of GDA and GPA.

The meetings delved into several pressing issues, such as amendments to the GPA Ordinance, land acquisition for expansion, the installation of electricity desalination plants for industry, and challenges faced by importers and exporters in Gwadar. Additionally, topics concerning land settlement, the digitization of land records, and other revenue-related matters were thoroughly examined.

The Deputy Chairman of NAB underscored the significance of the Prevention Committee in tackling challenges faced by the GPA. He highlighted the need for rigorous pursuit of solutions to long-standing issues and pledged robust support from NAB to facilitate these efforts.

In a separate session focusing on land issues, commitments were made by the SMBR, Government of Balochistan, to swiftly resolve problems identified by the Prevention Committee, such as land settlement and the digitization of land records. The Deputy Chairman emphasized that while Gwadar has the potential to become a significant industrial hub, its development has been hindered by corruption and the non-implementation of regulations.

The meetings concluded with a unified commitment to remove obstacles hindering development projects and to enforce rules and regulations to maximize Gwadar’s potential as a key economic player in the region. The NAB Gwadar Sub-office will continue to monitor progress and support the implementation of these critical recommendations.
