NA Standing Committee on National Health Services Regulations and Coordination’s directs ministry to act against unlawful acts of registrar PNC

Islamabad, December 15, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Standing Committee on National Health Services, Regulations and Services has directed the Ministry to intervene and address the state of affairs in Pakistan Nursing Council. The Committee took serious note of the defiant behaviour of the Registrar Nursing by Council and retrieves all the record of the Council.

The Committee also directed to immediately repatriate Assistant Registrar to her parent department i.e. Poly Clinic who had been aiding the Registrar in her unlawful acts. The Committee met under the chairmanship of Dr. Muhammad Afzal Khan Dhandla, MNA in National Institute of Health, and this afternoon.

The President Pakistan Nursing Council apprised the Committee that the Registrar acting unlawfully took possession of all the record and data of the Council and refused to hand it over despite several written directions. She informed that her accomplice a Computer operator attempted to destroy record places in the server of Comsats.

She further informed that the Registrar and her accomplice had been suspended and case against both of them has been referred to FIA for inquiry. She said that the Vice President of the Council had also attempted to summon an unlawful meeting of the Council which had no legal affect. The Special Secretary of the Ministry informed the Committee that the issue was grave and the Ministry would take appropriate action and submit report to the Committee.

The Committee while discussing the recent conduct of MDCAT tests viewed that a portion of the test paper was out of course therefore this needs to be taken into account. The Committee directed the Ministry to ask Pakistan Medical Commission to stop finalization of lists of successful candidates till issue was under consideration of the Committee. The Committee also directed Ministry to ensure in person presence of President, Vice President and Secretary of the PMC in its meeting to be convened next week.

The Committee also took notice of the SRO issued by FBR legalizing the sale of Tobacco heated products. The Committee decided to write to the Prime Minister to rescind the decision and give a personal hearing to the Standing Committee on NHSR and C on the issue. The Committee was of the view that worldwide such products were being banned and if sale of such products was allowed, they would play havoc with the health of the public.

The Committee later visited different laboratories and research facilities at National Institute of Health. The Executive Director NIH apprised the Committee about the performance of the Laboratories and research being under taken therein. The Committee appreciated the performance of the NIH and paid it’s gratitude to the Management and staff members of the Institute for making it a world class health research and vaccines production facility.

The Committee asked the Executive Director NIH to work on initiation of indigenous production of vaccines presently being imported from abroad. The Committee also appreciated the role of NIH in Covid pandemic and recent floods. The meeting was attended by Members of the Committee, Executive Director NIH, President Pakistan Nursing Council, Special Secretary Ministry of NHSR and C and Officers of the Pakistan Medical Commission.
