Islamabad: Speaker of the National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, held a meeting with key federal ministers and lawmakers to discuss austerity measures and legislative reforms. The meeting, attended by Federal Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar, Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan, Member National Assembly Syed Naveed Qamar, and Deputy Speaker Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah, focused on strategies to enhance the effectiveness of the legislative process in light of current regional tensions.

According to the National Assembly of Pakistan, the meeting included discussions on the Prime Minister’s austerity measures, with Speaker Sadiq detailing efforts to conserve fuel and energy, including grounding 75 percent of official vehicles and utilizing the Green Parliament solar system for electricity needs. He also highlighted that only 200 employees are physically present during Assembly sessions as part of efficiency measures, aiming to save up to PKR 2 billion.

The attendees expressed support for the austerity initiatives and considered various proposals to further improve the legislative process and strengthen the role of Standing Committees.
