NA Speaker Advocates for AI and Innovative Tech in Legislation; Commonwealth Secretary-General Visits Pakistan


Islamabad: Speaker of the National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, emphasized the critical role of Artificial Intelligence and innovative technologies in shaping qualitative and public-responsive legislation. During a meeting on July 30, 2024, with Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland and other parliamentary representatives, Sadiq highlighted the importance of these technologies in fostering regional development and enhancing inter-parliamentary cooperation among Commonwealth countries.



According to National Assembly of Pakistan, the discussions also touched on the importance of parliamentary friendship groups and the digitalization of parliament to improve education responsiveness. The Speaker outlined initiatives like the Legislative Drafting Council, which utilizes AI to increase synergy among Commonwealth parliaments, and the Green Parliament Initiative, marking Pakistan’s parliament as the first to be fully solar-powered.



Additional projects mentioned by Speaker Sadiq included the Secretariat of Sustainable Development Goals, aimed at enhancing collaboration among various stakeholders, and programs focused on bringing youth closer to the legislative process and advancing women’s rights through the Women Parliamentary Caucus.



Commonwealth Secretary-General Scotland expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s hospitality and acknowledged the nation’s resilience in overcoming the challenges posed by the 2022 floods. She praised Pakistan’s active role in the Commonwealth and its efforts towards vibrant parliamentary diplomacy.
