Mysterious Drowning in Udhampur Sparks Family Protest

Jammu, The death of a young man, Akhil Kumar, in a drowning incident in Udhampur’s Tawi River has led to protests by his family, who allege that his death was not an accident but murder.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Akhil Kumar, 20, from Udhampur, was collecting sand from the Tawi River with two others when he drowned. The police described the event as a tragic accident that occurred while Kumar and his helpers were bathing in the river, where Kumar reportedly slipped into deeper waters. Despite these statements, the family has contested the official account, insisting that foul play was involved in his death. Their protest caused significant disruption as they blocked the Dhar Road demanding a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Kumar’s death. The demonstration, which lasted more than an hour, unfolded last evening in the Dibber area under the jurisdiction of Udhampur Police Station.

The body of Kumar, who worked as a tractor driver, was released to his family after a postmortem examination for final rites.
