Muzaffarabad, Calls for Global Intervention in Kashmir Issue Amplify

Muzaffarabad, In a significant appeal, Tanveer-ul-Islam, Chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Peace and Justice Organization, has implored international powers to assist in resolving the protracted Kashmir conflict, citing severe human rights concerns and the urgency for peaceful resolution.

According to Kashmir Media Service, during a webinar titled “Voices for Kashmir: Seeking Truth, Justice, and Dignity,” Tanveer-ul-Islam articulated a pressing need for global intervention to mitigate what he described as a humanitarian crisis in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He highlighted longstanding grievances including human rights violations like arbitrary detentions, extrajudicial killings, and enforced disappearances that have marred the region for decades.

Islam also criticized the revocation of constitutional provisions, specifically Articles 370 and 35A, which once granted special autonomy to the region, deeming such actions as exacerbating the plight of Kashmiri Muslims under Indian rule.

The webinar also featured Syed Arif Bahar, President of the Pak Kashmir Solidarity Council, who echoed the call for an end to what he termed as Indian atrocities and advocated for a resolution that aligns with United Nations directives and the Kashmiri populace’s wishes.

Academic contributions came from Professor Shahid Hassan Mir, who stressed the importance of international engagement to address and rectify human rights abuses in Kashmir. Similarly, Muhammad Tahir Tabasum, leading the Institute of Peace and Development, highlighted concerns over the political climate and the conditions of political prisoners, urging their immediate release.

The event united various voices in a consensus that a peaceful, inclusive resolution process, engaging Kashmiri representatives and addressing their core issues, is imperative for lasting peace and justice in the region.
