New Delhi: Several Muslim students in a government school in the Nand Nagri area of northeast Delhi have accused their teachers of physical abuse, religious slurs, and forced religious chanting.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the incidents took place at Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya and were detailed in a letter sent by the victimized students to Supreme Court lawyer Ashok Agarwal.
The students, who have chosen to remain anonymous due to fear of retribution, described being beaten, humiliated, and threatened with the viral spread of nude videos. They were allegedly coerced into chanting “Jai Shri Ram” and targeted for their Muslim identity. The letter was also addressed to the Lieutenant-Governor, Delhi Chief Minister, and several educational and child protection authorities.
The accusations include claims that Muslim and Dalit students are relegated to back benches while upper-caste students are given front-row seats. Teachers named in the allegations include Adarsh Sharma, Vikas Kumar, and an unidentified Hindi teacher. Agarwal, who was informed of these issues during a visit to the school on August 7, has criticized the growing influence of Hindutva ideology in educational settings.
Agarwal stated that despite bringing the matter to the attention of the school’s principal and the previous Director of Education, no action has been taken. He expressed concern over the lack of governmental intervention, citing political hesitations as a potential barrier to addressing the issue. The situation continues to cause anxiety among the students, who fear further mistreatment if they report the alleged misconduct.
