Muslim Personal Law Board says uniform civil code against fundamental rights

Lucknow, February 06, 2023 (PPI-OT):The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has said that uniform civil code (UCC) and other issues related to Muslims imposed by the BJP government led by Narendra Modi are against the spirit of the constitution and the breach of fundamental rights. The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) executive members met in Lucknow to discuss various issues including the Gyanvapi dispute, uniform civil code and other issues related to Muslims in Indian city Lucknow.

The meeting was attended by All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi who is also the executive member of AIMPLB. AIMPLB member Maulana Khalid Rasheed Firangi Mahali said issues faced by the community including conversion, and the Gyanvapi case were also discussed. The Board discussed the issue of uniform civil code and said that the fundamental rights provide freedom of religion to all citizens and bringing the uniform civil code would deprive citizens of the privileges given to them by the constitution. “Such a code is neither relevant nor beneficial for a multi-religious, multi-cultural and multi-lingual country like India,” the Board said in a release.
