Karachi, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has called on revenue generating departments to meet their fiscal targets to ensure the expansion of development and poverty reduction initiatives. This directive was issued during a resource mobilisation meeting at the Chief Minister’s House, emphasizing the importance of meeting financial goals to fund critical sectors.
According to Chief Minister Sindh, the meeting gathered top officials, including Senior Minister ETand NC Sharjeel Memon, Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah, and heads of various revenue departments. The Chief Minister outlined his priorities for the next financial year, focusing on economic stimulation and improved living standards through investments in education, healthcare, water supply, sanitation, infrastructure, and agriculture.
Syed Murad Ali Shah stressed the necessity for revenue departments like the Sindh Revenue Board (SRB) to achieve their targets. He highlighted the SRB’s goal of Rs 235 billion for the 2023-24 period and tasked its chairman, Wasif Memon, with not only meeting this year’s target but also proposing next year’s fiscal targets.
The meeting also addressed the targets for the Excise and Taxation Department and the Board of Revenue. The Excise Department has a target of Rs 143 billion, and measures have been taken to ensure this is met by the end of June 2024. For the Board of Revenue, which has a target of Rs 55.218 billion, the Chief Minister instructed the SMBR to revamp the collection system to make it more efficient and accountable.
Development projects were also a key point of discussion. The Chief Minister mentioned that 5,250 ongoing development schemes worth Rs 380.5 billion were progressing, and he aims to complete as many as possible in the coming financial year.
