Murad Ali Shah directs police department to establish anti-terrorisms specialized training units 

Shahdadpur, July 20, 2022 (PPI-OT):Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed police department to establish an Anti-terrorism Training Unit at Police Training Centers, Shahdadpur and Rzakabad, Karachi so that new entrants in police are imparted specialized training.

“We have commandoes, anti-riot and] anti-dacoits specialized training units at our police training centers but we do not have anti-terrorism training units which are need of the hour, therefore they must be established so that these anti-state elements are dealt by the police professionally.”

This he said while speaking at 172nd Passing out parade of 561 ASIs at Police Training Center, Shahdadpur on Wednesday. The programme was hosted by Inspector General of Police Ghulam Nabi Memon, Principal PTC Munir Khuhro. MPA Shahid Thahim, Aajiz Dhamraha, Javed Nayab Leghari, Paras Dero and other notables as well as family members of passing out ASIs attended the programme in a large number.

The chief minister directed IG Police Ghulam Nabi Memon to hire top trainers from Pak Army to train new recruits in their dealing with terrorists. “Once these trained policemen are on the ground, we will be able to handle terrorists on different fronts such as espionage and operation. “I would suggest you [IGP] to establish such units at Shahdadpur and Razakabad-Karachi so that selected policemen could be given specialized anti-terrorism training,” he said.

Mr Shah addressing the ASI being passed said that the policing is a sacred profession because you [the policemen] protect life and property of the people. “The presence of a policeman must be considered as sense of security, protection and confidence by the people – this is my humble desire, and I am sure the police would come up to such a level of professionalism,” he said.

Mr Shah said that the passed out 561 ASIs, male and female, now would wear uniform to perform their duties in the field. “You have to maintain the sanctity of your uniform and you have to enhance the dignity of the police service through your professional approach in handling different kinds of cases,” he urged.

The CM said that his government has introduced most modern and latest methods of police trainings by employing highly professional trainers of Pak Army. “We have enhanced the salaries, allowance and compensation for shaheeds’ families and in the new budget we have upgraded pay scales of the police. On top of that, selection of policemen is made purely on merit, therefore the newly recruited/trained policemen have to prove themselves as an asset of the department and the society,” he said.

Earlier, the chief minister inspected the parade of the ASIs being passed out and distributed medals, certificates and announced one basic to the position holders in the training. The newly trained ASIs demonstrated their professionalism by conducting a mock police encounter with dacoits and protesters.

The IG police, Ghulam Nabi Memon speaking on the occasion said that in 1994 then chief minister Syed Abdullah Shah, the father of the incumbent Sindh CM Syed Murad Ali Shah, had visited the Shahdadpur PTC and had upgraded it to the level of a Training college. He added that the then CM Syed Abdullah Shah had established firing range in at the PTC which was in shambles now. At this the chief minister announced to reconstruct the firing range.

The IG police pointed out that Rs3000 feeding charges of the under training/probationers were being deducted from their salaries. At this the chief minister announced to pay Rs5000 as feeding charges to the probationers per month. At the conclusion of the passing out parade programme, the chief minister visited MPAs Shahid Thahim at his residence – Thahim House where he held a meeting with party leaders and workers.

Speaking on this occasion, the chief minister said that the party workers are assets of the party. “Our workers have to help people, particularly the poor in solving their problems,” he said and added the PPP government in Sindh and under the guidance of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was serving the people of the province without any discrimination.
