Mumbai School Principal Pressured to Resign Over Pro-Palestine Social Media Activity

Mumbai, A Muslim principal of a prominent Mumbai school was reportedly forced to resign after expressing support for Palestine on social media. Parveen Shaikh, who has served as the principal of Somaiya School in the Vidyavihar area for seven years, faced pressure from the school’s management following her engagement with content sympathetic to Palestine and Hamas during the recent conflict in Gaza.

According to Kashmir Media Service, during a formal meeting, the school’s management deemed Shaikh’s social media actions unacceptable and demanded her resignation, which she initially refused. Over the subsequent days, she faced continued pressure to step down from her position.

The controversy surrounding Shaikh’s social media activity came to public attention after a web portal reported on her posts and likes on platform X, highlighting her stance on the Palestinian issue. Shaikh has been with Somaiya School for 12 years, playing a critical role in its educational leadership.
