Islamabad, March 15, 2022 (PPI-OT): During her speech at the Ministerial Roundtable on 14th March 2022, Ms Nilofar Bakhtiar highlighted that gender parity and climate change are two of the most pressing issues concerning our world. She further discussed the eminent Pakistani women leaders, such as Benazir Bhutto and how Pakistani women are currently serving as Supreme Court judges, CEOs and fighter pilots. Ms Nilofar further stressed that Pakistan’s carbon emissions are negligible, yet the country is one of the most affected from the adverse effects of climate change.
On the occasion, Ms Nilofar Bakhtiar said, “Ten Billion Tree Tsunami Programme by PM Imran Khan is a testimony to the fact that the will of the government is not lacking anywhere.” While mentioning the consultations held by the National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) on a span of 4 months, Ms Nilofar explained the formation of a National Gender Action Plan for Climate Change as a result of these consultations.
