Mother, daughter burnt alive after police set their home on fire in UP

Lucknow, February 16, 2023 (PPI-OT):A mother and daughter were burnt alive after the police set their hut on fire during a demolition drive in Kanpur Dehat district of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Police, district administration and revenue officials were present when this incident occurred during an anti-encroachment drive in Madauli village of the district and after the fire, they fled from the spot.

Shivam Dixit, the son, who also recorded a video which has been uploaded on social media, claims that “They (police) started the fire while people were still inside. We were just able to escape. They broke our temple. Nobody did anything, not even the District Magistrate. Everybody ran, nobody could save my mother.” The deceased were identified as 44-year-old Pramila Dixit and her 21-year-old daughter Neha Dixit.
