KARACHI: In a closely contested match at Madhu Ground, Mororo Town triumphed over Mominabad Town with a score of six goals to four in match number 36 of the ongoing Metropolitan Football Cup 2024. The tournament is organized by the Department of Culture and Sports of the Municipality of Karachi.
According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the match saw impressive performances from both sides, particularly from Shahzeb of Mominabad Town, who scored three goals. Meanwhile, Mororo Town’s Farooq Iqbal was a standout player, scoring four goals to lead his team to victory. In another match held at KMC Football Stadium, Maripur Town decisively defeated North Karachi Town with a four-nil scoreline, with goals from Asif, Shaukat, Dilshad, and Asif Sr. The match was not without its disciplinary actions, as Maripur Town’s Usman and M Ali received yellow cards, and Shahryarko of North Karachi Town was shown a red card in the 75th minute.
The tournament, featuring 24 teams, including 23 from the town administration and one from KMC, offers significant prize money, with 10 lakh rupees for the champion, 5 lakh for the runner-up, and 2.5 lakh for the third place. The semi-finals and finals are set to be played under floodlights, and the tournament is overseen by FIFA-approved referees, with input from former footballers and experts to ensure high standards. The initiative aims to provide football fans with an exceptional viewing experience, complete with team kits for the participating towns.
