Monsoon Update: NDMA Forecasts Intense Rainfall and Weather Alerts Across Pakistan

Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) issued an update regarding the expected weather patterns for Monsoon 2024, predicting significant rainfall and potential severe weather conditions across various regions of Pakistan from July 22 to July 27. The forecast includes heavy rainfalls that may lead to urban flooding, landslides, and other monsoon-related hazards.

According to National Disaster Management Authority, intense rainfall is anticipated in regions including Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and Islamabad Capital Territory, with specific alerts on urban flooding and flash floods in hilly areas. The NDMA has also issued warnings for possible landslides in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir due to expected heavy falls.

The monsoon activity will cover a wide area, affecting cities such as Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Peshawar with urban flooding risks. Rural areas are also at risk of increased water flow in streams and nullahs, potentially impacting local communities. The NDMA has highlighted the risks of roof and wall collapses in weaker structures, urging the public to take precautionary measures.

Preventive measures and readiness protocols have been outlined by NDMA, including the pre-placement of machinery for timely road restoration and ensuring the availability of emergency response teams and equipment. Public awareness campaigns are set to continue across various media channels to educate and prepare residents for the monsoon season’s impacts.
