Monsoon System to Bring Torrential Rains Across Pakistan, Major Flood Risks Anticipated

Islamabad: A significant monsoon system is set to impact Pakistan from August 25 to 30, bringing widespread rain and thunderstorms, with particular severity in the southern regions. The National Weather Forecasting Centre in Islamabad reports that this weather pattern stems from a low-pressure system moving westward from West Bengal, strengthening monsoon currents that will permeate the country starting the night of August 25.

According to National Weather Forecasting Centre – Islamabad, the forecast includes scattered to very heavy rainfall across Sindh, including major cities like Karachi and Hyderabad, from the night of August 25 through August 29. Balochistan will experience similar conditions from August 26, with isolated heavy falls expected in areas such as Khuzdar and Kalat. In Punjab and Islamabad, intense rainfall is forecasted starting the night of August 25, impacting cities like Lahore, Faisalabad, and the capital itself.

The expected downpour raises concerns for pluvial floods in low-lying areas and flash flooding in local streams and hill torrents, particularly in regions like D.G. Khan, Dadu, and Kalat. Urban centers like Islamabad, Lahore, and Peshawar might face significant urban flooding. The National Weather Forecasting Centre has also issued warnings for potential landslides in hilly areas such as Murree and the Galliyat region during this period.

Authorities are advising residents in affected areas to prepare for potential inundations and disruptions. Farmers, travelers, and fishermen are particularly cautioned to adjust their activities and travel plans to accommodate the expected harsh weather conditions. The advised safety measures are aimed at preventing loss of life and minimizing damage to property during this severe weather episode.
