Islamabad: The National Weather Forecasting Centre has forecasted a significant increase in monsoon activity across upper and central parts of Pakistan, including potential torrential rainfall from July 2nd to July 7th. The impending weather could disrupt daily routines and pose severe risks, such as flash floods and urban flooding, in various regions.
According to National Weather Forecasting Centre – Islamabad, strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal are expected to influence weather conditions substantially. Areas like Kashmir, Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and parts of Balochistan and Sindh will experience varying intensities of rain and thunderstorms. In particular, cities like Lahore, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Narowal, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Peshawar are at high risk of urban flooding during this period.
The expected heavy rains could cause flash floods in local streams of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Sialkot, and Murree, among others. Additionally, increased water flows in eastern rivers are anticipated, which could exacerbate the situation. The weather center also warns of possible landslides in hilly areas such as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, and Gilgit-Baltistan, which may disrupt travel and pose dangers to residents and tourists alike.
Authorities have been advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions to mitigate the impacts of the monsoon. Residents, especially farmers and travelers, are urged to plan their activities carefully and stay updated through the Pakistan Meteorological Department’s official website.
